This TOTO Washlet S5 is basically the new king of the mountain for 2026. If you are coming from an older C-series or one of those clunky tank models, the first thing you will notice is how much slimmer this thing is—it is about 19% smaller because they finally moved to a full tankless setup.

The Real-World Upgrade

The S5 is all about “endless” warm water. Unlike the old seats that would go cold after thirty seconds, this uses a spiral heater that keeps the temperature steady for as long as you need it. It also has a crazy “Pre-mist” feature where it sprays the bowl with electrolyzed water (EWATER+) the second you sit down. It sounds like a gimmick, but it actually keeps stuff from sticking. Combined with a TOTO toilet bowl, and their CEFIONTECT (their new name for their SanaGloss) coating, you’ll be spending much less time cleaning toilet bowls.

Why It Beats the Flagship

A lot of people look at the S550e because it has the “auto open/close” lid, but for almost half the price, the S5 gives you the exact same wash performance. It actually has a better nightlight than the newer S7 models, and in my tests, the seat heater feels more consistent. It is a solid, professional-grade appliance that doesn’t feel like a plastic toy tacked onto your toilet.
